Over 200 Wicklow business people, public figures and media turned out for the major celebrations at the prestigious 2009 Wicklow Chamber Business Awards ceremony at the Parkview Hotel, Newtowmountkennedy on Friday 20th November. Host for the evening, Apprentice star, Brian Purcell kept the crowd on its toes. The night was full of cheer and optimism for the future of Wicklow Business, with Wicklow Chamber President, Martina Robinson announcing that “Wicklow means business”, calling on all present to toast the “fantastic celebration of the successes of 2009, and the launch of 2010 - yet another year where we will continue to embrace challenges and strive for the very best in business here in Wicklow”. The highlight of the evening, as always, was the presentation of the prestigious Wicklow Chamber Business Awards across seven categories. Keysolve Software took the big award of the night – the Wicklow Enterprise Centre Overall Business Award, with property company Portella Developments taking the runner-up award in the category.
The Schering Plough Best New Business award went to Diamond Bowl, and the runner-up prize went to Austen Associates. The Herbst Award for Innovation went to Kinometrics Ltd with Whatswhat.ie winning the runner-up award. The Wicklow Town Council Best Retail Award went to Toymaster Hopkins, with the runner-up prize going to Cullens Quality Butchers. Shark Designs was the winner of the 2009 Conway Media Best Service Provider; with Premier Captioning & Realtime winning the runner-up prize. Astron Engineering took the Keysolve Small Business Award; the runner-up was Laztech IT Services. The Burke Oil Community Service Award went to Wicklow Arts Festival. Wicklow based Keysolve Ltd, a software development company specialising in payroll systems, has won the award for Payroll Software Provider of the Year for Medium to large companies at the IPASS National Payroll Awards 2008 in association with Ceridian, one of Ireland’s leading providers of Managed Payroll Service. This is second year of the IPASS Payroll Awards which were hosted by TV3’s Martin King where he presented 9 Award categories to individuals, teams and companies from all around the country who were honored for their outstanding achievement and excellence in the Irish Payroll Sector. Speaking at the Payroll Awards Ceremony, Eamonn Corcoran, Chief Executive of IPASS said, “Now more than ever the job of the payroll professional has become critical role not only for Employers but also for the Government. Apart from having to deal with complicated rules involving redundancies and termination payments and the stress associated with seeing multiple employments being terminated, they also have the added pressure of having to cope with recently announced changes which are meant to take effect from January next”, said Mr. Corcoran. The establishment of IPASS in 2000 has created a representative body for payroll personnel and IPASS’ mission is to train, develop and support the payroll profession. Payroll professionals work on behalf of the 200,000 employers, processing the wages for the 2,000,000 people working in the economy, managing roughly €60 billion a year in wages and €16 billion going to the revenue. The size and complexity of this undertaking is not matched by any other group of workers in the country” he added.
